I have returned to Kwajalein after a whirlwind trip back to the states where I signed an apartment lease and purchased a car.  Talk about a stressful three days…  It’s July 3rd and I have 8 days of island life left before I head back to the states and start my new job with TriQuint on July 14th.  I’m excited and a little nervous about getting back into the swing of things.  I know I’ll be fine once I get settled in, it’s just the stresses of relocation and change that are starting to wear on me.  On another note, I have completed all of the requirements for my PADI Dive Master certification.  Now all I have to do is write a check and send off the application package.  I might look into being a certified assistant once I get back to the states.  I believe there are many PADI dive shops around the Dallas area that I could possibly be associated with.  We shall see :)

    Stay on the island! We don’t want your island fluff back here in the states!

    Dallas sucks.

    Dallas does suck, but the DFW area is 6 million people in a 9 county area. I live in Frisco and DFW ROCKS!! You can do anything here and there are great jobs here. I work with TriQuint Semi. here in Richardson. Best job I’ve ever had. If you live in the DFW area you’re just a few hours away from hundreds of great places all over the western hemisphere. 6 million people can’t all be wrong.

    Mike, I just love your enthusiasm! Don’t mind BBK….he’s just an old grouch!

    …actually, he’s just a hick engineer who’s lived Fort Worth for 28 years.

    Frisco is fine – unless you have to get there from anywhere other than Frisco. You either (1) pay $6 in tolls and get there in 45 minutes or (2) don’t pay tolls, go through Denton, and get there in 2 hours. Nice place to live, but I wouldn’t want to visit there (except for a run to Ikea once a year).

    Maybe I should be more specific – Dallas County sucks. Case in point:

    =====================================

    A special meeting about Dallas County traffic tickets turned tense and bizarre this afternoon.

    County commissioners were discussing problems with the central collections office that is used to process traffic ticket payments and handle other paperwork normally done by the JP Courts.

    Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that central collections “has become a black hole” because paperwork reportedly has become lost in the office.

    Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud “Excuse me!” He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has become a “white hole.”

    That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy.

    Mayfield shot back that it was a figure of speech and a science term.

    =====================================

    I rest my case.
